Young Diplomats Were Provided Information About The Cyprus Problem at EMU

Under the auspices of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Vice Presidency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs a conference on the “Cyprus Problem” was organized for Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomatic Academy representatives and prospective career employees. The conference took place at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall at 09:30, on Friday, the 22nd of November 2019. Within the scope of their visit to the country, the Republic of Turkey’s prospective career employees are attending informative meetings on the Cyprus problem. The new diplomats who will begin their duty in all corners of the world after completing their education were delivered a conference titled the “Cyprus Problem” by former Cyprus problem Lead Negotiator Osman Ertuğ.

The negotiation process was evaluated

Delivering the opening speech of the conference, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that the university is celebrating its 40th year and highlighted that it would not be where it is today without the contributions of motherland Turkey. Prof. Dr. Osam continued to state that EMU is an institution which allow Turkish Cypriots’ voices to be heard via science despite being unrecognized in the international political arena. After the opening speech Osman Ertuğ who served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretariat, the Embassy and the TRNC Washington Embassy and occupied the positions of Lead Negotiator and Presidency Spokesperson delivered his conference on the “Cyprus Problem”.

During the conference, Osman Ertuğ provided extensive information about the background and history of the Cyprus Problem. Ertuğ shared his experiences as lead negotiator and provided information about how international diplomacy affects Cyprus. At the end of the conference, the young diplomats gained the opportunity to ask former Lead Negotiator Osman Ertuğ any questions they had about the Cyprus problem. The conference came to an end with Osman Ertuğ being presented a plaque on behalf of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
