VIII. EMU Beach Volley Tournament Takes Place in Memory of Osman Maraşlı

Organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Sports Affairs Directorate the eighth beach volley tournament in memory of Osman Maraşlı took place on the 30th of June and the 1st of July 2018. The tournament that took place at the EMU Beach Club is the only trio beach volley tournament in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The tournament was attended by EMU Student Affairs Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Subaşı, EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu and TRNC Volleyball Federation President Enver Kaya in addition to a large number of spectators. The tournament came to a close with the final matches played on Sunday, the 1st July 2018.

54 sportspeople competed in the tournament

During the tournament 12 teams participated in the trio men’s category and 9 in the duo mixed couples category.   A total of 54 sportspeople competed in the tournament. Talat-Osman-Umut finished top in the trio men’s category and Cemal-Beste were victorious in the duo mixed couples category. Osman Çetintaş was selected as best male player and Beste Güven as best female player. The youngest player in the tournament was Fatma Kesken who was born in 2006 and the best amateur player of the tournament was Cemal Konnolu. The top teams were presented their trophies and cash awards during an award ceremony which took place after the final matches. The awards were presented by EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu, Cyprus Turkish Sport Writers Association President Çelen Oben, Referees Committee President Sedat Kılıç and EMU Sports Affairs Directorate Personnel. The highest ranked teams were as follows:

  3. İsmail-Münür-Kemal
  4. Cemal-Ecevit-Douglas
  5. Ertan-Umut-Ahmet
  6. Ali-Maxim-Ahmet

Duo mixed couples:

  1. Cemal-Beste
  2. Ertan-Fatma
  3. Talat-Zalihe
  4. Kemal-Doğa

Special Awards:

Best male player: Osman Çetintaş
Best female player: Beste Güven
Youngest player: Fatma Kesken (born in 2006)
Best spectator: Haset Tanol
Best amateur player: Cemal Konnolu
