Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Communication Faculty students came together for training provided by the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) Academy. The said training took place between the 10th and 12th of December 2019. The training provided by TRT professionals at EMU Communication Faculty was delivered under three headings. Director Zeynep Keçeciler and Director of Photography Ahmet Ferah delivered a workshop on documentaries. Editor Gökhan Sunal delivered a workshop on television news. Finally, Editor İbrahim Acar delivered a workshop on internet journalism.
The opening speeches of the workshops were delivered by EMU Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan, EMU Communication Faculty Vice-Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy and TRT Education Department Vice President Mustafa Cantürk. In her speech Prof. Dr. Pulhan thanked the TRT professionals for their contributions to the university.
Information was provided about TRT Academy
Next, TRT Academy Director Ekrem Özdemir shared a presentation providing information about TRT Academy. Indicating that TRT Academy was brought to life in December 2018, Özdemir stated that their first workshops were delivered in Adana and Samsun. Özdemir highlighted that their workshops are specially aimed towards communication graduates and added that the students can apply for the “Communication Professionals of the Future” competition or internships from the TRT webpage. Indicating that the “Communication Professionals of the Future” competition is comprised of four categories (radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, news broadcasting and internet broadcasting) Özdemir highlighted that students can apply for the categories which they are interested in.
“Important Opportunity for our Students”
EMU Communication Faculty Vice Dean / New Media and Journalism Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy stated that they are proud to be hosting a long-established institution like TRT at the university, whilst expressing that the workshops will provide important opportunities for Communication Faculty students. Noting that the students are going to receive important information from journalists, editors and directors who have many years of experience in the sector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy also added that they have been informed about TRT competitions and education camps as well as internships and job opportunities. Thanking TRT and the EMU Rector’s Office for providing this opportunity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy stated that further collaborations will be taking place.
Visit to EMU Rector
TRT Academy Director Ekrem Özdemir and TRT Academy Education Representative Kutalmış Yiğit visited EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam with EMU Communication Faculty Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy. The visit took place at 10:30 on Thursday, the 12th of December 2019. TRT Academy Director Ekrem Özdemir provided Rector Prof. Dr. Osam with information about the three-day workshops which were delivered by TRT professionals at the Communication Faculty. Indication that they value the collaboration between EMU and TRT, Özdemir stated that they are happy to be at EMU. Relaying the good news that they will continue to provide education at EMU Özdemir emphasized that EMU Communication Faculty students will have internship opportunities at TRT. Also providing information about TRT’s annual Young Communicators competition Özdemir noted that they will be accepting applications from Cyprus for the TRT Academy Summer Camps.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that collaborations with state institutions like TRT will provide students with an important accumulation of knowledge. Underlining that TRT Academy and EMU have a joint vision Prof. Dr. Osam emphasized EMU’s belief that investments made on people are the most valuable ones. Prof. Dr. Osam concluded by thanking TRT for the support provided to the university.
