Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman visited the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) within the scope of the “Equal Opportunities Project” coordinated by the TRNC Youth Department operating under the Prime Minister’s Office, in collaboration with EMU. The project is aimed towards high school students receiving an education at TRNC state schools. Erhürman met with the said students at the EMU Senate Hall on Monday, the 9th of July 2018 at 10:00
Delivering the opening speech of the meeting, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam highlighted his belief that this project is very important indicating that EMU always set goals to obtain the very best. Prof. Dr. Osam concluded by wishing luck to all students involved in the project and thanking members of academic staff.
EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Halit Tanju Besler provided information about the course content stating that the courses will be very useful for the students.
In a speech of his own TRNC Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman noted: “I feel like I am home. I am very happy to be a part of this project.” Describing their aim as providing equal opportunities for public and private school students Erhürman relayed his belief that the high school students will be guided by the education they receive in the summer period that will cover range of different subjects.
Education will be provided to high school students
Free education courses in a range of subjects will be provided to high school students receiving an education at TRNC state schools selected by the Youth Department according to certain criteria. During the summer, courses will be provided on subjects such as Humanoid Robot Programming and Control, Fundamental Robot Design and Application, Microcontroller Programing (Arduino), Introduction to Astronomy, Rhino, AutoCAD, Geographic Information Systems, HTML and Web Design. The education courses that will be delivered by members of EMU academic staff will be taking place on the EMU campus between the 9th of July and the 1st of September 2018.

Before the meeting, Erhürman came together with Prof. Dr. Osam at 09:00 receiving information about the latest developments at the university. Also present during the said meeting were TRNC Prime Ministry Chief of Cabinet Mustafa Ergüven, Youth Department Director Şifa Çolakoğlu, EMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Halit Tanju Besler, Prof. Dr. Naciye Doratlı and Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu as well as Rector’s Coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Arif Akkeleş.
