Eastern Mediterranean University Architecture Faculty, Interior Architecture Department students participated in the 8th National Furniture Design Competition with their furniture design projects produced within the framework of the “Furniture and Fixtures” course.
The 8th National Furniture Design Competition aims to contribute to the development of the vision for the future in the field of home furnishings, furniture industry in Turkey representing the product and the identity of the design quality as well as to bring together the industry and talented interior architects.
A total of 33 projects from Eastern Mediterranean University were submitted for the competition on 22 December 2014. Elementary, middle and high school students as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students, academicians and professional designers may take part in the competition in different categories.
The biggest difference of the National Furniture Design Competition from others is its entire coverage of the furniture sector, its ability to bring together the manufacturers and the designers, the provision of employment opportunities for designers at manufacturing or export companies, and the government supported training opportunities for award winning designers at Italian Domus Academy and NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti).
The competition jury is formed by doyennes of the design and will be chaired by Prof. Önder Küçükerman. Reşit Soley, Aziz Sarıyer, Jan Nahum, Mustafa Toner, Kaan Dericioğlu, Didem Çapa, Fatih Kıral, Murat Armağan and Renan Gökyay Asli are notable names who will be part of the jury.
The award ceremony of the 8th National Furniture Design Competition will take place at İstanbul Lazzoni Hotel on 10 April 2015. It is worth mentioning that a student from EMU Interior Architecture Department qualified for the award in “Smart Furniture” category in 2014.
