Students of EMU Interior Architecture Department Took Part in a Technical Trip in İstanbul

Within the framework of Interior Architecture Studio II course entitled INAR292 and ITAS202,  students of Eastern Mediterranean University, Architecture Faculty, Interior Architecture Department took part in a technical trip in İstanbul, where they had a chance to discover various artisans’ workplaces.

As part of the 2014 – 2015 Academic Year Sping Semester projects entitled “Meeting Station” and “Workshops with Display Windows”, students design unique working, production and sale spaces for artisans working in six different fields (marbling, puppet, wax/soap, wind chime, perfume and basket). Participated by a total of 42 students, the design studio is delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Olgaç Türker and research assistant Sowgol Koshronejad in Interior Architecture Program in English and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maya Öztürk, Assist. Prof. Dr. Münevver Özgür Özersay, interior architect-trainer Pembe Birinci and research assistant Eliz Erdenizci in the Turkish medium of the same program.

Students’ observations in İstanbul first started with İstanbul Hand Crafts Bazaar in Sultanahmet and then continued with Caferağa Medresseh. During the second phase of the the trip, students received information from a handmade book cover binding artist at Küçük Ayasofya street. Finally, students had a chance to receive in-depth information from award-winning mother-of-pearl inlayer Ahmet Sezen at Hüseyin Ağa Medresseh.

During the visit, students extended their horizons with valuable information that cannot be found in any book, magazine or on the internet by observation.
