Students of EMU Health Sciences Faculty Attended “9th International Nutrition and Dietetics Conference”

Eastern Mediterranean University Health Sciences Faculty Nutrition and Dietetics Department attended “9th International Nutrition and Dietetics Conference” which took place at Ankara Sheraton Hotel between 2 and 5 April 2014. Organised by Hacettepe University every two years, the conference was participated by about 2000 professionals both at national and international levels and included 30 different topics in the relevant field.

Along with the Dean of Health Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr. Hülya Harutoğlu, Vice Dean and Chair of the Nutirition and Dietetics Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Barış Öztürk, academic staff, research assistants and about 90 students from the same department attended the event.

Among notable presentations which were delivered during the congress were Health Sciences Faculty Vice Dean Assist. Prof. Dr. Barış Öztürk’s presentation entitled  ‘Glycemic Index: Facts and Contradictions’ as well as Prof. Dr. Perihan Arslan’s and Prof. Dr. Seyit Mercanlıgil’s ‘Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Nutrition Treatment’ and ‘Organ Transplant and Nutrition Treatment.

During the congress, 4 different presentations were delivered by a research group including Vice Dean Assist. Prof. Dr. Barış Öztürk. Sen. Inst. Seray Kabaran from the same department successfully delivered a presentation entitled ‘The Waist Circumference and the Risk of Hypertension in Individuals over 60” and Research Assistant Merve Hacıveziroğulları ‘The Comparison of Food Consumption of Individuals with and without Premenstural Syndrome”. Final year students of Nutrition and Dietetics Department Ezgi Şanlı and Kamil Dağcılar’s presentations ‘Eating Habits in University Students and the Evaluation of the Food Consumption and BMI’ and  ‘Food Consumption of Football Players and BMI” also attracted attention.
