Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam Becomes the Rector of EMU

Having received the majority of votes in the Rector Candidate Tendency Determination Poll carried out by Eastern Mediterranean University Rector Candidate Determination Committee on Thursday, 9 June 2016, Eastern Mediterranean University’s (EMU) Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam has been appointed as the Rector of EMU on Tuesday, 14 June 2016. 

In the said poll, Prof. Dr. Osam received 756 votes out of 1039 valid votes, which indicates the majority of academic and administrative staff’s and workers’ approval of his rectorship. Following the tendency determination poll, EMU Senate convened on 10 June 2016 and submitted their recommendation of Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam’s candidacy for the Rector’s position for the approval of EMU Board of Trustees. In line with the Senate’s recommendation, EMU Board of Trustees approved the full appointment of Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam to the said position on 14 June 2016.

Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam was appointed as the Acting Rector of EMU on 15 November 2014 and has been serving the university as the Acting Rector for 20 months. In line with the decision of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Osam will be continuing his duty as the Rector of EMU as of 14 June 2016.
