Minister of Internal Affairs and Labor Visits EMU

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Internal Affairs and Labor Minister Asım Akansoy paid a visit to  Eastern Mediterranean University Rector at 1:30 p.m. on 5 November 2015. During the visit, information exchange on Collective Bargaining Agreements in EMU and the strengthening  of the relationship between the said ministry and EMU were among the topics of consideration.   

Stressing the importance of EMU both for the TRNC and Famagusta, Akansoy stated that the working environment in EMU should set a sample for other institutions within the country. Thanking EMU for establishing Collective Bargaining Agreements with the relevant stakeholders, Akansoy also added that his ministry is ready to spend its best efforts in maintaining the existing work peace within EMU.

Expressing his pleasure in Akansoy’s visit, Prof. Dr. Osam stressed the importance of establishing dialogue among all stakeholders in taking EMU to further achivements. Expressing his concerns about the progression of EMU’s Act, Prof. Dr. Osam stressed the urgency of the finalisation of the relevant legislation of EMU.

Chair of EMU Academic Staff Union Assist. Prof. Dr. Hasan Ulaş Altıok, who was also present in the meeting, stated that the Collective Bargaining Agreement which has been signed in EMU after a long period of time has brought security and work peace. Adding that the EMU administration maintains a reconciliative attitude in their relationship with relevant stakeholders, union representatives also highlighted the importance of the continuation of the existing interaction between EMU administration and the unions.

Ministry of Internal Affairs and Labor Undersecretary Hasan Alicik, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan, Vice Rector for Administrative Affairs Prof. Dr.  Bekir Özer, Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu  and Director of EMU Public Relations and Press Office Murat Aktuğralı were also present at the meeting.
