Iftar Dinner for Students Has Been Organised in EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Cyprus Foundations Administration (EVKAF) organized an Iftar Meal at EMU Atatürk Square on Tuesday, 12 April, 2022. Among those who attended the said organisation were President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar, TRNC Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz, Members of the Parliament, Representatives of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, EVKAF General Director Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter, President of EMU Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, Vice Rectors, EMU staff and more than 2,500 students. Staff and students who came from all over the world to study at EMU broke their fast all together at EMU Atatürk Square. Lentil soup, roast chicken, white bean stew, rice, yoghurt, bread, revani, ayran and water were included in the iftar menu. In addition, a mini concert with ney and kudum instruments was performed by the artists of the Ney Cyprus Music Academy, under the sponsorship of Cepbasket, during the Iftar Dinner.

“It's So Nice to Be Together on This Beautiful Ramadan Night”

Speaking at the Iftar Organisation, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın stated that EMU, which is a state university where different international cultures intersect, boasts students and faculty members from 120 and 35 different countries, respectively. Expressing that EMU attaches importance to social, cultural and sports activities besides education and research, Prof. Dr. Hocanın pointed out that this Iftar Organisation is among the important activities. Expressing his happiness to be together with the students on this beautiful Ramadan night, Prof. Dr. Hocanın wished everyone a good iftar and happy bairam at the end of Ramadan.

 “The Month of Ramadan is Tolerance”

President of EMU Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk also said, “Whilst welcoming you all at this beautiful Iftar dinner organized by EMU and EVKAF, I would also like to extend you my love and respect. The month of Ramadan represents tolerance, cooperation, love, sincerity and sharing. We must show each other love, respect and tolerance so that this holy month achieves its true purpose. We are desperately in need of these values these days. With these feelings and thoughts, I would like to say that I am happy to share this iftar table with you, and May God accept our fasting”.

“Time to Share and Get Together”

EVKAF General Director Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter, on the other hand, stated that he is extremely happy to be with all those present at the Iftar Dinner. Emphasizing that the month of Ramadan is a time to share and come together, Prof. Dr. Benter said, “It is important to make a habit of tolerance, sharing, helping each other and supporting those in need, and I hope these good habits are also maintained throughout the year.”
