Famous Turkish Artist Gülsin Onay Performs Piano Recital During Gülsin Onay 2nd Piano Festival

Organized in cooperation of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association (KPKD), the 2nd Gülsin Onay Piano Festival was held on 5-7 October, 2021. The event which was organized in memory of Turkish pianist Verda Erman ended on Thursday, 7th of October 2021, with a closing concert performed by Turkish artist and pianist Gülsin Onay in the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center.

Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association Chair Şifa Çolakoğlu delivered a speech during the opening speeches prior to the piano recital and emphasized her joy and excitement to being able to get together with art lovers after a very long time. Expressing that they aim to open a new horizon for the young people in the country and to shed light on their future, Çolakoğlu thanked the EMU administration for providing the opportunity to cooperate in the realization of such a beautiful event and everyone who contributed the event. Following Çolakoğlu’s speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın noted that he is proud of EMU's contribution to such a beautiful event and stated that as a state university, they want to be a pioneer in cultural and social issues as well as providing quality education, research and community service.

In the first part of the 2nd Gülsin Onay Piano Festival Closing Concert, pianist Onay performed "Op. 58 B Minor Piano Sonata” by the artist Frédéric Chopin. In the second part of the recital, Cypriot pianist Esra Poyrazoğlu Alpan accompanied Gülsin Onay and the two pianists performed Edvard Grieg's "Op.16 A Minor, Piano Concerto" together.        

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hocanın presented silver plates to pianists, Gülsin Onay and Esra Poyrazoğlu Alpan as a souvenir. On the other hand, Çolakoğlu presented flowers to the artists.
