Who is Osman Sınav?

He received his education at the İstanbul Academy of Fine Arts between 1975 and 1979. In 2012, he graduated from The Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Cinema and Television.

He started his television career by writing and directing advertising texts. Between 1984 and 1987 he was involved in the production of over 500 advertisements. Later, he decided to transfer his visual art excitement and experience to the field of cinema.

He set up the production company Sinegraf. Since 1987 numerous feature films, TV series and drama productions have appeared as products of his passion.

Since starting his cinematic journey in 1987 he has added richness to Turkish cinema with the television films Bir Muharririn Ölümü, Yalancı Şafak, Atlı Karınca, Hünkarın Bir Günü, Küçük Dünya, Aşka Kimse Yok, Kapıları Açmak, Yalancı, and the cinema films Gerilla, Deli yürek: Bumerang Cehennemi ve Pars: Kiraz Operasyonu, Uzun Hikaye and Aşk Kırmızı.

In 1991, he focused his attention on TV series. He became accepted as a master director by directing and producing 21 popular television shows such as Süper Baba, Deli Yürek, Hayat Bağları, Ekmek Teknesi, Kurtlar Vadisi and Sakarya Fırat.  His series garnered great interest not only in Turkey but in numerous countries across the world.

Osman Sınav, who has been in the world of television and film for 30 years, is also a member of the Directors’ Association and the Cinematic Work Owners’ Society. In addition, he is on the board of directors of the Cinema Film Association.

“This is my job. It is a bit to do with intuition, however it is important keep your finger on the pulse of the community and to examine culture. I think I have done that. I have always viewed the idea ‘the public is witless’ as an insult and believed the opposite. If you do something right you will certainly reek the rewards” noted Sınav who went on to state that approaching and trying to understand the public without prejudgment is what lies behind creating a popular film. He concluded by noting that his work aims to make people feel by synthesizing geographical elements and cultural values rather than simply aiming to make a profit.
