Famagusta Women Centre’s Works Were Discussed in the EMU “Light of the Island” Programme

Sıdıka Özdoğan, Chair of Famagusta Women Centre (MAKAMER); Simge Okburan the General Secretary and Serap Akalınlar, a member attended the “Light of the Island” TV programme that was held under the moderation of conductor and Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Education Music Teaching Department academic staff Erkan Dağlı. This week’s programme was about the 8th March Women’s Day activities and goals of MAKAMER.

Özdoğan who provided information about MAKAMER stated that their goal is to find out problems of women and they work as 13 friends who are all volunteers. Özdoğan also added that they have organized education sessions, workshops and seminars. Then, Özdoğan indicated that they will move to an institutional building soon which they need. Özdoğan also mentioned that violence against women is on-going for many years but it is been ignored. Özdoğan, who recorded that 1 in every 3 women is a victim of violence against women and a law regarding this will soon be implemented, also stated that they aim to raise awareness and inform the public about this issue.
