EMU Visits Iran

With the aim of strengthening the relationship and academic collaborations between Eastern Mediterranean University and the educational institutions in Iran, Vice Rector for Promotion  Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca visited Iran between 11 and 13 May 2015.  During his stay in Iran, Pharmacy Faculty student Navid Nobakht accompanied Prof. Dr. Amca, who visited Islamic Azad University, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, University of Applied Science and Technology, Tehran Institute of Technology and Ministry of Health and Medical Education.  

Prof. Dr. Amca had a meeting with the Vice President, Head of Management and Planning Organization and spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Prof. Dr. Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, who provided his support in the establishment of collaborations with a considerable number of prominent institutions in Iran.  It is worth mentioning that the visit carried special importance since it was the first time in Eastern Mediterranean University’s international relationship history that the university established advanced level relations with senior government officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As the next phase of the visit, Prof. Dr. Amca visited Islamic Azad University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Husein Garibi, who cooperated with EMU during the Clean Energy Conference in 2010 as a co-author of the journal published at the end of the aforesaid conference. Dr. Garibi stated his readiness to cooperate with Eastern Mediterranean University regarding academic exchange programs, student exchange programs, research programs and joint international conferences.

Shahid Beheshti University Chancellor and Vice President for Research and Technology stressed that they are highly interested in exchanging M.Sc. and Ph.D. students between the two universities and, at the same time, to collaborate with EMU in the fields of Engineering, Business and Economics, Human and Basic Sciences, Sociology, Architecture, Chemistry, Energy, Water Resources, Buildings Sciences and Earthquake .  

Prof. Dr. Amca also discussed the possibility of establishing a joint campus in Dubai with Vice Rector of Azad University Dr. S.j. Angaji. During his meeting with Dr. Hossein Salar Amoli, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology, both parties discussed a new framework in upgrading EMU’s rank in Iran’s Ministry of Science.  Prof. Dr. Amca also visited Rector of the University of Applied Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. M. Akhbari, who showed interest towards summer courses offered by EMU. 

During a meeting with Prof. Dr. Hamid Akbari, Deputy of Vice Ministry of Health and Medical Education, the possibility of extending 2-year accreditation of EMU Pharmacy faculty was discussed. Dr. Akbari is expected to visit EMU Pharmacy Faculty in the near future regarding the accreditations.

As the next step of his visit, Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca discussed prospective collaboration possibilities and mutual student exchange programs with the Rector of Tehran University Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi. During the same meeting, information exchange on joint international conferences and various collaborations also took place.

Prof. Dr. Amca stated that the visit to Iran carries special importance in strengthening academic collaborations with Iran.
