EMU Translation and Interpretation Department 7th Silver Screen Days

7th Silver Screen Days featuring the screening of films translated by Eastern Mediterranean University Arts and Sciences Faculty, Translation and Interpretation Department final year students took place in Eastern Mediterranean University between 6 and 9 January 2015.

Within the framework of the first stage of the 7th Silver Screen Days, Translation and Interpretation Department students Huriye Beşerler, Yağmur Kılgın, Mihrican Elibol, Ayşan Sunalp, Alnur Kocaemir, Pembe Komut, Dilara Mum, Emre Erden, Ahmet Akınsel, Kutay Yatıkkaya, Mert Efekan, Selma Şanlısoy and Ülfet Çoban translated a number of movies with historical, drama, comedy and animation themes.

 Having taken place with the theme of “Quality Language, Quality Translator” since 2009, 7th Silver Screen Days stressed the importance of introducing a film to different cultures through translation.

Translation and Interpretation Department academic staff member Neslihan Binatlı Hekimoğlu  stated that the event aims to make the students aware of the important responsibility undertaken in the career of translation.  Academic staff member Hekimoğlu also added that there is a sectoral need for quality translations and expert translators. Hekimoğlu put forth that in order to function as a high quality translator, one should possess effective translation techniques, intercultural communication and general culture.
