Tower Barista Cafe and Education Laboratory opened at the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism. In the project supported by EMU Technical Affairs Directorate and Project Affairs Directorate, EMU Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture realized the entire interior design of the space.
In the opening ceremony of the said venue which took place at 14:30 on Tuesday, 11 May 2021, EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç gave information about the Faculty of Tourism and talked about the Shanghai ranking and cooperation agreement signed between their faculty and Paul Bocuse. Noting that the place to be opened is very special, Prof. Dr. Kılıç underlined that the place has emerged where both students can practice bar and cafe management issues and academic and administrative staff can come together. Prof. Dr. Kılıç thanked those who contributed at the end of his speech.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Faculty of Architecture Dean Prof. Dr. Uğur Ulaş Dağlı stated that they are very excited today and emphasized that, as the Faculty of Architecture, they are excited about their projects from abstract to concrete. Prof. Dr. Dağlı also added that they are constantly trying to involve students in practice at the Faculty of Architecture, where practice and theory go hand in hand. Prof. Dr. Dağlı thanked those who contributed and supported the project.
Chair of Interior Architecture Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Öngül stated that she is proud to be involved in such an important project and stated that interior architects design living spaces. Assoc. Dr. Öngül expressed her best wishes for the operaiton of Tower Barista Cafe and Education Laboratory in healthy days.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the Tower Barista Cafe and Education Laboratory, which was opened under the roof of the Faculty of Tourism, and added that it is very important for students to practice and catch up with the developments in the field. After the opening speeches, plaques of appreciation were presented to those who contributed to the realisation of the project.
Among those who were present at the opening were President of EMU Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu, Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu, Board of Trustees member Ersun Kutup, faculty deans, academic staff members and administrative staff.
