EMU to Celebrate Library Week Through Various Activities

Eastern Mediterranean University Özay Oral Library is finalising the preparations for various activities taking place within the framework of the 51st Library Week. On 30 March 2015, at 10:00 a.m., celebrations will commence with a mini concert taking place under the conductorship of Eastern Mediterranean University, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Teaching Program Chorus Conductor Erkan Dağlı. Following the concert, at 10:15 a.m. the opening of an exhibition entitled “Non-vanishing Values” organised in memory of late artist Ali Atakan will take place at Library Exhibition Hall. In the same venue, a “Memory Corner” will be set up in memory of the famous Turkish writer Yaşar Kemal. The exhibition and the memory corner will be open for visitors between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m from 30 March to 3 April 2015.

The opening conference of the 51st Library Week of EMU Özay Oral Library, will be delivered by EMU Education Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam. Entitled “The Place of Libraries in the World of Digital Locals”, the conference will take place at EMU Library Auditorium at 10:30 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m. on 31 March 2015,  a talk event during which author Gürol Özkaya’s recent books entitled “Paphos and Things I Can Remember” and “Diagnosis” will be discussed will take place with the participation of the aforesaid author. Within the framework of the week, at 2:00 p.m. on 1 April 2015, TechKnowledge Firm Country Director and Turnitin Turkey Representative Altan Gürsel will be delivering a seminar entitled “Turnitin: Plagiarism, Copying and Analysis Program Promotion and Training Seminar”. On 2 April 2015, Thursday at 10:30 a.m., Chair of Near East University Innovation and Information Management Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sağsan will be participating in a seminar entitled “Love of the Information Career: Tides of a Platonic Relationship and Its Challenge with Professionalism”. On the same day at 2:00 p.m., EU School of Computing and Technology academic staff member Eralp Görkan will be delivering a seminar entitled “The Use of Information Technologies in Libraries”. All of the aforesaid seminars and the talk event will take place at Library AV Hall.

On the other hand, on 1 April Wednesday, a book reading activity will take place at EMU Library yard at 12:30 p.m. The event aims to increase the interest and awareness of public towards libraries as well as reading and developing a reading culture. Famagusta Mayor and President of the Board of Trustees İsmail Arter will also be taking part in the activity taking place both in Turkey and the TRNC under the organisation of the Association for Turkish Librarians.

Within the framework of the week, the university will be distributing books free of charge to support students’ academic and personal development. The event will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from 30 March to 3 April 2015.
