A panel titled “Is football only football?” took place at the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) organized by the Health Sciences Faculty, Department of Sports Sciences. The moderator of the panel that took place at the Health Sciences amphitheatre was Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç, Dean of the Health Sciences Faculty. Speakers at the panel were well-known Turkish football coach and sports writer Önder Özen and Cypriot sports writer Ogün Genç Kaçmaz.
Speaking in front of a large audience, Ogün Genç Kaçmaz provided information about the state of Cypriot football, living conditions and the difficulties of administrative affairs underlining the fact that necessary importance isn’t placed on football in the country. The other speaker, Önder Özen talked about the social and economic effects of countries and their rulers on football, focusing on the financial and administrative dilemmas in Turkish football. The panel came to an end with a question and answer session.
Visit to EMU Rector’s Office
Önder Özen and Ogün Genç Kaçmaz visited the EMU Rector’s Office along with Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç, Sports Sciences Department Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Berkiye Kırmızıgil, academic staff member Ahmet Özyaşar and Public Relations and Press Office Director Murat Aktuğralı. At the Rector’s Office the group visited Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özkaramanlı. Receiving information about EMU, guest speaker Özen, expressed his pleasure regarding being at EMU. Özen was also presented a gift with Cypriot Lefkara work and EMU logo.
