EMU Students Draw Attention to the Dangers of Using Mobile Phones in Traffic

The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has added another social responsibility project to those organized under the umbrella of the Community Involvement Centre. As part of the course delivered by EMU Communication Faculty, Public Relations and Advertising Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anıl Kemal Kaya, students Nsikan-Abasi Amos Akpan, Jamila Ummi Abbas, Nikita Nelin Medina Tleu and Ceren Özçaka carried out a meaningful social responsibility project.

Organized at the entrance of the university, the slogan of the event was “Could this be your last message?” Recent studies show that most traffic accidents in North Cyprus happen when individuals are using the telephone whilst driving or walking on the street as a pedestrian.

EMU students rolled up their sleeves to raise awareness about this matter by handing out informative brochures. Through this event, the EMU Public Relations and Advertising Department students made a difference by providing warnings to both pedestrians and drivers about not making calls or texting. At the end of the event participants were handed key-rings and photographs were taken.
