EMU Signs Collaboration Protocol with Municipality of Iskele

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Municipality of Iskele signed a collaboration protocol regarding part-time job and internship opportunities for EMU students in the municipality’s general service areas as well as mutual support in social and cultural events that will benefit both institutions. The signing ceremony of the said protocol took place on Thursday, 18 July, 2024 at 02:30 p.m. at the EMU Rector’s Office building. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and Mayor of Iskele Hasan Sadıkoğlu signed the said protocol. Present at the signing ceremony were EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, Sports Affairs Directorate Coordinator Aydın Karol, Sports Affairs Directorate personnel member and lawyer of Municipality of Iskele Fatoş Emirhan Yenigün.

 

Within the scope of the signed protocol, EMU Faculties of Architecture and Engineering and, Project Affairs Unit will provide support to the Municipality of Iskele in terms of plans and projects when needed. In accordance with the protocol, parties agreed that in-service seminars would be organized for Iskele Municipality staff, and that if the municipality staff and their children enroll in undergraduate and associate degree programs, they would be offered up to a 15% discount, and up to a 30% discount for enrollment in master’s and doctoral programs.

 

Stating that they came together with the Municipality of Iskele to develop cooperation within the scope of EMU’s emphasis on serving the community, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Kılıç highlighted that this collaboration is extremely important for both providing job opportunities for students and for improving bilateral relations through upcoming events. Prof. Dr. Kılıç pointed out that the Municipality of Iskele is one of the most distinguished municipalities in the country and emphasized that they follow the successful work being done and that EMU is always ready to contribute. Mentioning that efforts are ongoing to launch an EMU promotional office within the borders of Iskele Municipality in the coming days, Prof. Dr. Kılıç expressed his belief that the protocol would play a pioneering role in developing cooperation between the university and the community and, wished that the protocol would be beneficial for both institutions.

 

Sadıkoğlu, the Mayor of Iskele, also delivered a speech and conveyed his happiness and pride for signing a collaboration protocol with the university which he was once a student at. Mayor Sadıkoğlu highlighted that EMU holds a great importance for our country and noted that they have occasionally made efforts to launch an EMU campus in Iskele, expressing his full belief that steps will be taken in this direction. Sadıkoğlu wished for the protocol to be beneficial. After the protocol ceremony, Prof. Dr. Kılıç presented Sadıkoğlu with a gift unique to Cyprus.
