EMU Organizes “18 March Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs Memorial” Panel

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) commemorated Çanakkale Martyrs in a panel titled “Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs Memorial Program” which was organized by Atatürk Research and Application Center (ATAUM) at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall at 14:30 on Monday, 19th of March 2018. EMU Atatürk Research and Application Center (ATAUM) academic staff members Assist. Prof. Dr. Turgay Bülent Göktürk, EMU ATAUM member of the board and EMU Faculty of Law academic staff member Prof. Dr. Turgut Turhan and EMU ATAUM academic staff member Süheyla Göktürk delivered presentations at the panel where students showed great interest.

“The Battle of Çanakkale Should Be Analyzed in Detail”

The panel which commenced with a Moment of Silence and National Anthem, continued with the presentation titled “Military and Political Aspects of Çanakkale Battle” delivered by EMU ATAUM academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Turgay Bülent Göktürk. During his speech, Göktürk put emphasis on the significant place of Çanakkale Battle in the history of Republic of Turkey and especially stated that the battle shall be analyzed in detail and society shall take lessons from the Battle of Çanakkale. Assist. Prof. Dr. Göktürk gave detailed information about the historical facts from Çanakkale Battle and underlined that the war leaded to Atatürk’s birth as a respected soldier, statesman and a world leader.

Unknown Facts Regarding the Period of the Battle

EMU ATAUM member of the board and Faculty of Law staff member Prof. Dr. Turgut Turhan delivered a presentation titled “Captive Balloons and Aeroplane Transporting Ships During the Battle of Çanakkale”. In his speech, Turhan explained how captive balloons and auroplane transporting ships affect the process of battles. Prof. Dr. Turhan stated that only a small number of people have knowdledge on tha fact that such kind of combat vechiles had been used during the Battle of Çanakkale.

The last speaker of the panel, EMU ATAUM academic staff member Süheyla Göktürk also delivered a presentation on “Hinterland of Çanakkale Battle: Logistical Services”. During her presentation which is in the archive of the Presidency of Turkish General Staff and which has recently been published, never seen photos of Çanakkale Battle were presented to the audience. Süheyla Göktürk mentionied that logistic conditions play a vital role on the fate of all wars. Göktürk stated that victory is not possible for troops figthing with enemy in battlefronts who are undernurished and lacking importance resources such as clothes, weapons and armory, eventhough they have superior and skillfull leaders with well-directed commands.  Logistic conditions and elements in the hinterland of Çanakkale Battle contributed the victory. Çanakkale and Martyrs’ Memorial Program ended after the screening of a 10 minute documentary titled “Çanakkale Cannot Be Passed”.
