EMU is Participating in an Art Project that Joins the East and the West

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Communication, Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design is participating in an art project titled “Daily News Project 4”.  The Department also successfully represented North Cyprus in the previous stages of the project.

8 Participating Universities

A total of 8 universities are participating in the project (four universities from the east and four from the west). The west is being represented by universities from Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and North Cyprus whilst the east being represented by universities from China and India. The participating universities obtain 15 copies of the cover page of a daily newspaper from their country. Each university selects a project leader. The leaders then indicate 5 participants – artists from their communities. Newspapers from the East are sent to leaders from the West and vice versa. The leaders and participants then carry out original, artistic commentary on the cover pages. Using different perspectives, this project emphasizes the fact that daily news cannot be ignored.

The Artwork Will Be Exhibited in 6 Different Countries

All techniques can be applied to the newspaper cover pages. The deadline for sending work is the 15th of October, 2019. The curator and special guest of the project is Prof. Martin R. Baeyens from Belgium. The editing coordinator is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krysztof Marek Bak from Poland’s Silesia University. The artwork that emerges from the project will be exhibited in Poland’s Cieszyn University gallery and the galleries of other universities. EMU will be represented by Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department Chair Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu, Vice Chair Asst. Prof. Dr. Fırat Tüzünkan and Senior Instructors Shahriyar Mirzaalikhani, Marjan Khajavi, Hare Eminoğlu and Naz Atun.
