Taking place under the moderatorship of EMU Faculty of Health Sciences, Sports Sciences Department academic staff and sports critic Ahmet Özyaşar, this week’s TV program entitled “Academic Sports” hosted EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu who talked about “Sports in EMU and throughout the country”.
Having served in EMU Sports Affairs Directorate for 20 years, Cemal Konnolu talked about sports facilities. Konnolu put forth that during 1994 when he first started to work in EMU sports facilities and the relevant infrastructure were insufficient. However, currently, they are able to offer an array of sports facilities within the campus, thanks to the university administration’s firm support. Konnolu added that as EMU Sports Affairs staff members, they work with great devotion and offer sports related services 24/7.
Konnolu stated that EMU offers sports services not only for students and staff but also for Famagusta community. Cemal Konnolu also gave information regarding the successful achievements of EMU’s sports players and teams both at national and international levels.
The program also featured discussions on the sports situation throughout the country. Konnolu recommended that there should be a separate ministry for sports within TRNC. At the end of the program, Konnolu invited all citizens to adopt a sports culture.
