EMU Interior Architecture Department Students Present Their Projects for the TRNC Culture House to the Consul General in Istanbul

Students of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Architecture Faculty, Interior Architecture Department presented Consul General Seniha Birand Çınar 27 different proposals/idea projects designed by them during the 2021-2022 Academic Year Fall Semester for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) culture house, planned to be redesigned in Istanbul.

Upon the request from the TRNC Istanbul Consulate and within the scope of ITAS-INAR 403 Furniture and Accessories Course, students were assigned the topic of redesigning the culture house of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the Turkish World Culture District, which was established in Istanbul Topkapı Culture Park. In scope of the project, the students aimed to make the house of culture more contemporary, modern, elegant and remarkable, with an emphasis on the modern culture of Northern Cyprus. Accordingly, students worked on the Culture House Project during the Fall Semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year and developed a total of 27 different proposals/ideas. Later, an online meeting participated by EMU Architecture Faculty, Interior Architecture Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Öngül, and Vice Chair of Assist. Prof. Dr. Kamil Güley and TRNC Consul General in Istanbul, Seniha Birand Çınar was organised and 3 different projects were selected to be realised in real life.

“We Need More Joint Projects as Such”

In his speech at the meeting, Dr. Seyit Ermiyagil Seyit Ermiyagil emphasized the importance of the cooperation demonstrated during the course they offered with Mojtaba Karimnezhad and Research Assistant Mine Abraşoğlu, and stated that such joint studies should be increased in order to enable students to establish one-to-one relationships with the real world and business life. Dr. Ermiyagil also reminded that the possibility of the realisation of the selected project is very positive in terms of students having the opportunity to apply the project they produced on paper and also having a project that has been realized prior to their graduation.

Projects Highly Appreciated

Istanbul Consul General Seniha Birand Çınar also stated that she found student projects very valuable and noteworthy. Çınar stated that she would not want to leave immediately if she went to visit these houses in the projects and noted that the projects have an interesting structure that encourages people to share on social media. Çınar thanked the students and EMU Architecture Faculty for their contribution to this project.
