EMU Industrial Engineering Graduate Received “2019 Best Startup” Award

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering graduate Barış Bayoğlu, won the “Best B2B Startup” Award at Mobilefest 2019 which took place between the 21st and 24th November 2019 in İstanbul. The awards were presented by Republic of Turkey Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and Vice Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan. Barış Bayoğlu introduced the “Shopping Platform Independent of Time and Space” Moneymo to hundreds in a curious audience.

What is Moneymo?

It is a mobile shopping platform that allows the order, payment, campaign and loyalty programs of brands over all bank applications and e-wallets. It transforms offline channels such as shops, billboards, magazines, INSERT and TV to online channels. Whilst banks provide their customers with new campaigns and experiences, the customers shop easily and safely without sharing any credit card information or addresses inside the whole consumption ecosystem.

EMU Industrial Engineering Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İzbırak stated that contrary to the popular belief of Industry and Management Engineers only working at factories, they also work in the service industry (consultancy, transportation, telecommunication, energy, logistics, finance, banking, hospitals, education, software, tourism, brand management, marketing, human resources etc.) construction, oil, natural gas and mining. Assoc. Prof. Dr. İzbırak underlined that Industry and Management Engineers contribute to companies in the way that they to produce cheaper and higher quality goods/services at lower prices.

The EMU Industrial Engineering program also provides its successful students with the opportunity to obtain Mechanical Engineering or Business Administration diplomas. The program is accredited by ABET (abet.org) which currently only provides accreditation for 5 universities in Turkey. Since its first graduates in 1998, the graduates of the program work in top firms in the manufacturing, service and construction sectors. They are also being accepted to postgraduate programs of the most famous universities in the world such as MIT and Cambridge.
