The Young Leaders Club operating under Eastern Mediterranean University, Social and Cultural Activities Directorate organised an event entitled “Talks with Leaders”, which hosted World and Olympic Weightlifting Champion Halil Mutlu and Turkish Weightlifting Federation Executive Board Member Doğan Çağatay.
During the event, World and Olymic Champion Halil Mutlu talked about how he took up sports, his championships in weightlifting, the place of sports in his life and his successful achievements resulting in changes in his life. Following Mutlu, Turkish Weightlifting Federation Executive Board Member Doğan Çağatay talked about the close relationship between sports and leadership, the place of sports in politics and values brought into his life by these factors.
Towards the end of the conference which attracted a crowded group of attendees, Halil Mutlu and Doğan Çağatay answered questions coming from the audience. At the end of the organisation, the Young Leaders Club Advisor Kenan Başaran and Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports TRNC Coordinator Semattin Öztürk presented Mutlu and Çağatay plaques of appreciation.
Meeting with EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam
Prior to the conference, Mutlu and Çağatay paid a visit of courtesy to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and expressed their pleasure in visiting EMU. Stating the importance Eastern Mediterranean University pays for sports along with academic excellence, Prof. Dr. Osam put forth that EMU is successfully represented both in the TRNC and the Republic of Turkey in different sports branches. Thanking the event organisers for the event, Prof. Dr. Osam presented Mutlu and Çağatay a gift made of traditional Lefkara lace. EMU Public Relations and Press Office Acting Director Murat Aktuğralı was also present at the said visit.
