Eastern Mediterranean University hosted a poetry and piano night entitled “Phonetic Projections” in collaboration with EMU Academic Staff Union at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, 5 November 2015. During the said event, poetry and music lovers had a wonderful night filled with arts.
In her opening address, Yeşim İlkan stated that the first concert took place in Nicosia on 24 March 2015 and the second one is taking place in Famagusta under the auspices of EMU. Expressing their wish to share music and poetry with arts lovers by bringing them together, İlkan added that the existence of the audience gives them strength and motivation in doing so. İlkan also extended her gratitude to EMU’s Rectors Office and EMU Academic Union for their support.
In his address, Vice Rector for Promotion Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca stated that EMU is a cultural mosaic housing thousands of students from different countries and cultures. Adding that EMU brings together students not only through academic events but also social and cultural organisations, Prof. Dr. Amca thanked all those who contributed to the event.
During the event, poetry lovers listened to famous poets Altay Burağan, Arif Albayrak, Ayşe Tural, Fatma H. Akilhoca, Feriha Altıok, İlkay Adalı, Neriman Cahit, Şirin Zaferyıldızı and Talat Ürer. The event also hosted the piano performance of Yeşim Beyaz İlkan, and guitar performance of Alev Arsal. EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora, Dean of EMU Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Ülker V. Osam and local community demonstrated intensive interest in the said event.
