EMU Hosted a Conference Entitled "The Walking Mansion of Atatürk"

Organised by Atatürk Ideology Club operating under Eastern Mediterranean University Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, a conference entitled “The Walking Mansion of Atatürk” by  Metin Erdoğan took place at EMU Activity Hall.

During the event which commenced with the biography of the author Metin Erdoğan, information on the construction and history of the Walking Mansion was presented to the audience.  Erdoğan put forth that the mansion was originally constructed in 1929. Atatürk saw the mansion during a yacht trip and rested under the shadow of a sycamore tree growing beside it. The branches of the tree had begun to damage the mansion, and the gardener proposed trimming them. However, Atatürk ordered the mansion be moved instead. Hence, the building was called the Walking Mansion.

The conference which attracted considerable interest both from students and academicians, also hosted a video screening about the Walking Mansion as well as information on the activities of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as an environmentalist. Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan and Vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Bekir Özer also attended the said event at the end of which Metin Erdoğan was presented a plaque of appreciation.
