EMU Held 5th International Banking and Finance Perspectives Conference

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Business and Economics Faculty, Banking and Finance Department held the “5th International Conference on Banking and Finance Perspectives” in cooperation with University of Bedforshire and with the contributions of Central Bank of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Held online, the conference attracted the participation of around 120 banking and finance specialists from 15 different countries.

The opening speech of the conference was delivered by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın expressed his wish that the important academic studies conducted within the scope of the conference would contribute to the field and thanked the banking, finance and economics experts who attended the conference. Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın also thanked the conference organising committee chair Prof. Dr. Nesrin Özataç and the members of the said committee.

45 Papers Presented

At the conference, which started after the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Sabri Boubaker from France delivered a presentation titled "The Role of Block Owners in Corporate Governance" and Dr. Ourania Dimitriaki from the U.K. made a presentation titled "Economic Policy Challenges After Covid-19".

45 papers were presented by academicians from different countries within the scope of the conference. In the conference, in addition to the effective monetary policies that central banks should apply in times of volatility in the economy in general and financial markets in particular, issues such as the effects of Covid-19 on banking and economy, volatility models, the importance of surveillance and control, Islamic banking, micro finance and capital markets, corporate finance, economic development and energy economy were also discussed.

Data, Findings and Recommendations Discussed

In the session titled TRNC banking sector and economy which took place within the scope of EMU Faculty of Business and Economics and TRNC Central Bank, presentations by experts from the Central Bank took place under the following titles: "Exchange Rate Price Volatility in TRNC", "The Formation and Determinants of Inflation in TRNC", "The Current Account Performance of the Higher Education Sector" “The Impact and Analysis of the Financial Performance of TRNC Commercial Banks”. It was also emphasized that such collaborations are very important and meaningful in identifying country problems and providing data, findings and recommendations to policy makers in order to tackle the problems.
