EMU Health Sciences Faculty Releases a Stament on 8 September World Physiotherapists Day

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Ender Angın released a statement on 8th of September World Physiotherapists Day which reads as follows:

“The profession of physiotherapy emerged approximately 120 years ago and approximately 50 years ago in Turkey and our country. Public health and quality of life continues to increase since the emergence of physiotherapy. A physiotherapist is defined as someone who has received undergraduate education in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, obtaining the necessary knowledge and skills to become a health professional. A physiotherapist is an important component of the rehabilitation team. Patients are often referred to physiotherapists from different doctors. Physiotherapists often accept patients from fields such as orthopaedics, neurology, hand surgery, physical medicine, rheumatology, sports medicine, pulmonology, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, brain and nerve surgery and gynaecological diseases. Then physiotherapists apply treatment and rehabilitation programs they make use of a range of daily exercises, neuromuscular treatment approaches, manual treatment methods, electrotherapy, functional activity education and vocational rehabilitation techniques.

In our country, physiotherapists may pursue employment opportunities at a wide range of establishments such as hospitals, medical centres, special education centres, rehabilitation centres, fitness centres, sports clubs and old people’s homes. In addition to the service they provide in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, physiotherapists can also prepare protective exercise programs for healthy individuals and play a vital role in developing public health and preventing diseases.

The Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association organized the “3rd Contemporary Approaches to Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Symposium". The symposium that took place for the 8th of September World Physiotherapists Day was held on Friday, the 6th of September 2019. The 40th Year of the Cyprus Turkish Physiotherapists Association will also be celebrated this year. The profession’s state of affairs will be discussed by valuable speakers and participants as well as how the profession can be carried forward. Asst. Prof. Dr. Angın indicated that all Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation academic staff will be supporting the event.
