EMU Health Sciences Faculty Organised an Oath Ceremony for New Graduates

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Health Sciences Faculty organised an oath ceremony for the graduates of the 2016 - 2017 Academic Year Spring Semester. During the ceremony which took place at Rauf Raif Denktas Culture and Congress Centre at 10:00 a.m. on 19 June 2017, 469 associate and 210 undergraduate program graduates recited their medical oaths.

The oath ceremony commenced with a moment of silence and the national anthem followed by the dance performances of Special Education Students. Speaking at the opening ceremony, EMU Health Sciences Faculty Student Representative Emre Öztoprak put forth that the graduation and oath ceremony are both the first step taken towards their professional careers. Thanking all the academic staff members of EMU for their contributions and support throughout their studies, Oztoprak concluded his words by stating that their main aim is to protect EMU’s identity whilst contributing to the health sector.

“Let Humanity be your Primary Goal” 

EMU Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoc delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and provided information about the faculty. Stressing that the new graduates are taking their first steps towards their prospective careers, Prof. Dr. Malkoc expressed her wishes as follows: “Let humanity be your main goal; your attitude and your professional liabilities are far more significant than your titles. You are now a part of the health team, I congratulate you all as my colleagues.”

 Necdet Osam

“Depend Upon Your Oath” 

Delivering a speech on behalf of the university, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that Health Sciences Faculty has obtained considerable achievements since its establishment. Putting forth the developments and achievements of EMU since it was founded in 1979 as the High Technology Institute, Prof. Dr. Osam stated that EMU has taken its place in the world lists and is the first university ever in the TRNC to appear on the Times Higher Education list. Prof. Dr. Osam advised all graduates to depend upon their oaths in order to become successful in their prospective careers and went on to highlight the importance of trust and compassion that can be demonstrated towards patients.

 

Following the opening addresses, graduates of EMU Health Sciences Faculty Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Nursing Department, Health Management Department, Sports Sciences Department and Oral and Dental Health, Anaesthesia, Surgery Services, Dialysis, Physiotherapy, First and Emergency Aid, Radiotherapy, Medical Imaging Techniques and Elder Care associate program graduates recited an oath with their department chairs and academic staff members.
