EMU Genetics Club Organised “First Winter Data Retreat”

Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University Genetics Club in collaboration with the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, 1st Winter Data Retreat was held at EMU Business and Economics Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tahiroğlu Hall.

Having taken place under the coordinatorship of EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty, Biological Sciences Department, Molecular Biology and Genetics Program academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şükrü Tüzmen, the event was organised by Genetics Club Executive Board Chair and EMU Biological Sciences and Genetics Program final year student Havva Kilgöz and students of the same department Hüseyin Beyaz, Arwa A. Rajab, Yiğit Kurum, Veysi Piskobulu, Khader Abuzaid, Haya Jo’beh, Önder Çoban and Cağrı Nurçin. The said club currently has 200 members, and around 670 Facebook followers.

The event hosted around 100 student participants and a total of 12 prominent scientists both from the universities of the TRNC and South Cyprus.

EMU Genetics Club’s First Winter Data Retreat also hosted a mini concert by two of the invited speakers of the event, Prof. Dr. Osman Cankoy and Petek Cankoy. At the end of the event, guest speakers were presented plaques of appreciation by the directors of EMU Genetics Club.

After the completion of the event, EMU Genetics Club organised a trip to Karpaz region targeted towards the international student members of the club.
