EMU-FLEPS Cares For The Elderly

Within the scope of the “Civil Involvement Projects”, the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School (FLEPS) carried out its first observation trip of the 2018-2019 Academic Year, Spring Semester. The trip to the Lapta Retirement Home was organized by Team Leader Academic Staff Member Mehşen Ercanlar and took place under the leadership of academic staff members Şerife Nalbantoğlu, Mehşen Ercanlar and Eylem Akim. The ‘Care for the Elderly’ project was carried out with EMU-FLEPS students.

“We want to make routine visits from now on”

During their time at the retirement home the students had the opportunity to talk with the elders, make observations, take pictures and receive information from employees of the retirement home. Many students noted that this is their first time visiting a retirement home and stated that they want to make routine visits from now on. Students also had the opportunity to mix with students and academicians from different groups whilst on the trip.

Visit to the Community Foundation Retirement Home

On their second observational trip within the scope of the ‘Care for the Elderly’ project EMU FLEPS students visited the Community Foundation Retirement Home in Sınırüstü.

During this trip, students gained the opportunity to speak with elders, patients and personnel as well as taking pictures and making observations. The students and their teachers received information about life at the Retirement Home directly from its personnel. Many students stated that they learned valuable lessons on the trip whilst highlighting that they want to make such visits routinely in the TRNC as well as in their own countries. Students also had the opportunity to mix with students and academicians from different groups whilst on the trip.
