EMU Fauclty of Tourism Doctoral Student Denitsa Maydon Attends International Forum in Azerbaijan

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Tourism Faculty, Tourism Management Doctoral Program student and research assistant Denitsa Maydon attended the 5th Ethnosport Forum held on 5-6 March 2022 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Within the scope of this year’s “Reviving the Traditional Sports” theme, 140 participants from 45 countries set a course for the traditional sports during the event. EMU Tourism Faculty academic staff members Assist. Prof. Dr. İlkay Yorgancı Maloney’s doctoral student Denitsa Maydon represented EMU in the international forum which hosts prominent academicians and experts in the field of traditional sports and games, state representatives, ministers of sports and deputy ministers.

The forum commenced with an opening speech delivered by the World Ethnosport Confederation President Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan. Stating that the humanity needs the principles of peace, unity, respect and tradition, Erdoğan said that the World Ethnosport Confederation carries out its activities with this purpose in mind and, emphasized that the Confederation is to increase the number of such events and activities each passing day. Following the opening speeches, the event continued with panels, sessions and different activities where the traditional sports are discussed. Participating in all the events, Denitsa Maydon had the chance to meet with World Ethnosport Confederation President Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan, Azerbaijan Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Minister of Sports of Gambia Bakari Y. Badjie, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Department of Physical Education academic staff member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Türkemen, Prof. Dr. Pere Lavega from University of Lleida in Spain, Prof. Dr. Muharrem Tuna from Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Prof. Dr. Jerono Rotich from North Carolina State University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Adem Kaya from Bowie State Univeristy and many other esteemed participants.

During the froum, Denitsa Maydon provided the other participant coming from 45 different countries with information regarding EMU. On her return to Cyprus, Maydon visited vice Rector Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and provided information on the event. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu congratulated Denitsa Maydon for successfully representing the EMU and wished the doctoral student success in her studies.
