EMU Faculty of Tourism Organizes “World Free of Racism” Themed Activities

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism organized a range of activities with the theme “World Free of Racism”. The event moderated by THM 486 course instructor Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso was attended by students from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Pakistan, TRNC and Morocco as well as Faculty of Tourism academic staff members Asst. Prof. Dr. İlkay Yorgancı, Turan Değirmencioğlu and Hüseyin Bilsen.

Within the scope of the event participants firstly walked Famagusta’s streets with self-designed posters and t-shirts. The walk started from the İsmet İnönü Boulevard. Participants unfurled a banner and held up posters at the Anıt Roundabout with the aim of raising awareness. The students that continued their activities for a racism free world sang Bob Marley’s lyrics ‘one love, one heart, let’s get together and feel alright’.

In addition, within the scope of “A World Free from Racism” activities peace activist Eric Hellicar came from the South Cyprus and delivered a Human Rights themed seminar. Before the seminar THM 486 students screened anti-racism short films they produced and featured in.  At the end of the seminar, EMU Faculty of Tourism Vice-Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren presented Eric Hellicar a certificate of appreciation and plaque.
