EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Involved in KOSGEB Project

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Pharmacy has been involved in the Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration Project (KOSGEM). The R&D and Innovation Project titled "Plant-based Protein Production", in which Faculty of Pharmacy academic staff members are also in the project team, has been found suitable to be supported by KOSGEB Mersin Directorate. EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. Müberra Koşar and Faculty of Pharmacy Lecturer Pharm. Aytekin Sarpkaya are partaking in the said project.

Prof. Dr. Koşar made the following statements regarding the subject: “The project aims to produce plant-based protein with high nutritional value and rich in globulin derivative proteins from de-oiled pumpkin seed pulp, which is a waste product of the fixed oil industry. This protein isolate is used in many fields, especially in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries. This protein isolate, which will be produced for the first time from pumpkin seeds, is extremely important especially in children's nutrition because of its amino acid composition that complies with the standards. The project is a good example of the personal entrepreneur, pharmacist and university partnership.”
