“Since 1992, the United Nations have been acknowledging 3rd of December as the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. The international awareness day is celebrated with different events. Designing the cities, streets, buildings by applying the universal designing principles plays huge importance in terms of creating an environment which is accessible for everyone. Therefore, “individuals with different abilities” can have a life without encountering any disabilities. They can attend all kinds of social, cultural and sports events and, benefit from the nature and all the services offered by public spaces. By approaching with different scales, the awareness on this matter will become more prominent with the consciousness of professionals who are referred as architectures. Cities, streets, buildings and places that can be accessed and used equally by every individual will be created. In this respect, as the EMU Faculty of Architecture, we celebrate 3 December, International Day of Persons with Disabilities and, would like to express our desire to have a world which is created in accordance with the universal design principles within the basis of equal rights.”
