Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty 2021 – 2022 Academic Year Opening and White Gown Ceremony took place on Monday, the 4th of October, 2021 at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall.
The ceremony commenced with a moment of silence and recitation of the national anthem followed by a musical performance of Department of Fine Arts students Berkay Saral and Berk Akımcı. Following the introduction films of the university and the faculties, EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty 3rd year student Ghazaleh Sadat Aghazadeh Naeeni delivered a speech noting that studying medicine is like preparing for a marathon. Naeeni emphasized that discipline, stability, dedication and determination are required to be a good doctor. EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora stated that the road to be taken is a long and difficult responsibility and, emphasized that life has changed with the Covid-19 pandemic and that the intense and devoted efforts of healthcare professionals have been witnessed during this period. Emphasizing the importance of vaccination in his speech, Prof. Dr. Gökçora stated that face-to-face training has started with the increase in vaccination rates. Prof. Dr. Gökçora also noted that their top priority is medical education, clinical practice and research at the highest level.
Stating that today is the first day of the courses in the university EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın said after a 1.5 year break face-to-face education has started. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın also noted that since the day EMU was founded, EMU has continued to develop as an institution that strives to do its part in terms of providing quality education, conducting research and serving the community. Sharing general information about EMU and talking about the achievements, Prof. Dr. Hocanın wished everyone a good and productive academic year.
EMU Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Erdal Özcenk started his speech by congratulating the students who chose the most sacred profession in the world. Expressing that the white coat means hardship, strength, self-sacrifice, empathy and pride, Dr. Özcenk wished the students success in their new lives.
After the opening speeches, the traditional White Gown Ceremony was held. The ceremony ended with the first online class by Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Mülazimoğlu on "From Vaccination Hesitancy to Artificial Intelligence: Being a Physician in the 21st Century".
