Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine organized The Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2018 – 2019 and First Lecture on the 24th of September, 2018 at 09:00. The ceremony took place at the conference hall of EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine.
EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora, academic staff members, students, families and Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiology Lecturer Prof. Dr. Osman Yeşildağ, who delivered the traditional First Lecture, were amongst the attendees of the ceremony. The Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2018 – 2019 and First Lecture begun with Stand in Silence and Turkish National Anthem. After the faculty promotion film screening, 2nd and 3rd year medicine students gave a music concert for the attendees.
The opening speeches of the ceremony were given by EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Nahide Gökçora and Faculty Student Representative Çağın Şehit. Prof. Dr. Gökçora wished good luck for the students who made a step to the life of being a medic and stated that they will carry the white coats they wear now with pride and honor. Prof. Dr. Gökçora mentioned that the faculty is entering its 7th Academic Year and carried its education quality to an international level with the certificates such as World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) / Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Students (ECFMG). Prof. Dr. Gökçora also asked the students to stay friends with the white coat which is the main symbol of the profession and recommended the students to spare time for art, sports and nature. In his speech, Çağın Şehit addressed to new students and said that they will go through a tough education process, however at the end they will be successful doctors in order to help thousands of people. Şehit mentioned that the faculty is providing education with fully equipped materials and they have the chance to meet with experts at the events that take place.
70 Students Wore White Coats
After the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Gökçora and EMU Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Medicine faculty members clothed the white coats of 70 students. After the cocktail that had been prepared for socializing with new students and the faculty members, the ceremony continued with the First Lecture of Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiology Lecturer Prof. Dr. Osman Yeşildağ titled, “Mind-boggling Developments in the Past 40 Years at Cardiology Field”. Prof. Dr. Gökçora presented a plaque to Prof. Dr. Yeşildağ for giving the First Lecture and the ceremony ended with faculty promotion tour for the new students.
