Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Communication, Department of Cinema and Television is organizing a Reels competition titled “Kısa Film Tadında – Just like a Short Film” for high school students in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Offering a platform for young talents to showcase their creative storytelling techniques, the competition aims to enhance the students’ effective storytelling skills in short time.
The jury of the said competition consists of EMU Department of Cinema and TV academic staff members Assist. Prof. Dr. Pembe Behçetoğulları, Assist. Prof. Dr. Barçın Boğaç and Assist. Prof. Dr. Yetin Arslan, Gülşen Erçin who is the co-creator, creative director, and filmmaker for the “Neydi Olacağı” platform and, EMU Faculty of Communication graduate Ahmet Yalçın, the creator of “Durumcuklar” platform.
Participation Requirements and Evaluation Criteria
To enter the competition, participants simply need to produce a Reels video—no longer than 90 seconds—on any topic they choose, with no restrictions on the theme. The judging will be based on several key aspects, including originality, creativity, cinematic storytelling, and technical quality.
Cash Prize to Young Talents
As part of the competition, a total of four prizes will be awarded across two main categories. The video with the highest number of views on Instagram will receive a cash prize of 7.000 TL. Upon the jury evaluation, the first place winner, runner-up and the third place winner will be granted cash prizes of 7.000 TL, 6.000 TL, and 4.000 TL, respectively.
Final Submission Date: 4 May 2025
High school students who wish to participate in the competition must submit their short video or Reels until the latest of 4 May 2025. Following the completion of the evaluation process, the winners will be announced on 12 May 2025.
