EMU Communication Faculty Students Organised a Field Trip

Within the framework of the ‘Turkish Cypriot Media History’ course, Eastern Mediterranean University Communication Faculty students organized a field trip which had the goal of gathering information about Turkish Cypriot media’s past.

During the visit which took place under the supervision of the course instructor Assist. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy, students visited radio and television channels as well as news companies.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy stated that by organising such a trip, the department aims to integrate theory with direct media practice. Defining Turkish Cypriot media as “the media of struggle”, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ersoy stressed the importance of media in Turkish Cypriot’s struggle for existence.

Students’ visit to media organs started with Havadis Newspaper and continued with Halkın Sesi Newspaper. Students then paid a visit to Turkish Agency - Cyprus Ajansı Kıbrıs (TAK) and received information about its foundation, history and activities from TAK director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neriman Saygılı. Students also visited Birinci Media Group and listened to Birinci Media Group chair Ertan Birinci’s memories of journalism.

The next stop was Bayrak Radio Television Corporation. After receiving information about BRT from BRT 1 representative Neşe Ergüçlü, students visited various studios and observed different equipments used when BRT was first founded.

The final stop of the visiting group was Cyprus Media Group. Receiving information from Cyprus Media group’s general publishing director Süleyman Ergüçlü, students visited different units and the printing office within the establishment.
