EMU Communication Faculty Phd. Student Emad Abouata Amlashi Receives an Award in International Film Festival

A short film titled “Hightide”, whose director of photography and the technical advisor of the director is Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Communication Faculty PhD Program Student Emad Abouata Amlashi, received the “Mediterranean Award” in the Best Short Film category of 9th Tracce Cinematografiche International Film Festival, one of the most prestigious short film festivals in the field of cinematography.

About a Drama

Amlashi coordinated the artistic and technical reflection of the camera and lighting team's work on the screen during the production of the award-winning film. The 16-minute short drama film Hightide is about a father living in a border village, sailing to the stormy sea and searching for the bodies of refugees. The villagers also blame the father, who feels guilty about the drowning of the refugees. The father does not come back from the sea, and his son does everything he can to make his father come back. However, the sea does not return the drowned ones unless a traditional ritual is performed.

Amlashi Told The Difficulties He Encountered During Filming

EMU Communication Faculty PhD Student and “Hightide” Director of Cinematography Emad Abouata Amlashi said, “In my opinion, the constant pleasure of working as a Cinematographer is to make the necessary arrangements to overcome the obstacles and difficulties you encounter while creating the artistic visual field of a film. At the same time, it is important to ensure that the story is told well by keeping the balance of art and to impress the audience in order for the story to form. "In addition to these, one of the challenges I faced in the movie Hightide was the film's great dependence on natural light sources and shooting in stormy seas in a small boat with passengers on board."
