EMU Celebrates World Choral Day

Eastern Mediterranean University celebrated World Choral Day through a concert organisation which took place at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 8:00 p.m. on 7 December 2015. The concert included songs from world choral literature as well as Cypriot and Turkish multivoice folk songs performed under the conductorship of Erkan Dağlı, Rana Uluçay and Macchew Okogea.

In her opening address, Chair of EMU Education Faculty, Fine Arts Education Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Hatice Nilay Hasipoğlu highlighted the significance of the event in the dissemination of a choral culture both in EMU and Famagusta.

Following Assist. Prof. Dr. Hasipoğlu, EMU Education Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam also stressed the importance of the World Choral Day and expressed her happiness in celebrating the said event in EMU. Welcoming all participating choirs and guests, Prof. Dr. Osam thanked all those who contributed to the event.

During the said organisation, EMU Education Faculty, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Teaching Program Chorus, Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association Othello Multivoice Chorus, EMU-CEC Ada Işığı Children’s Choir and EMU Classical Choir delivered fascinating pieces of music. 

Declared as the World Choral Day by IFCM (International Federation for Choral Music), ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) and UNESCO, 8 December World Choral Day is celebrated through concerts taking place at different places throughout the world.
