EMU-CEC in Niğde

Eastern Mediterranean University Continuing Education Center (EMU-CEC) Ada Işığı Children’s Choir acquired contacts in Niğde. Having travelled to Niğde upon an invitation from Niğde BILSEM Children’s Choir where the two choirs put on a joint performance.  Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Metin Ersoy from the Board of Directors of the Eastern Mediterranean University Continuing Education Center (EMU-CEC) and the group members visited Niğde Province Education Directorate, Niğde University Rector’s Office and Niğde Akşemseddin Centre of Science and Arts.

“Cyprus has a Special Place in Our Hearts”

Before the concert in Niğde, some students and administrators visited Halil Ibrahim Yasar, Head of Education at the Niğde Province. In his statement, Halil Ibrahim Yasar noted that Cyprus has a special place in their hearts and that they greatly value music, the arts and culture.

Meanwhile in his statement, Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Metin Ersoy from the Board of Directors of the Eastern Mediterranean University Continuing Education Center (EMU-CEC) thanked everyone in Nigde and highlighted the fact that they have been very good hosts. Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Metin Ersoy went on to state that he has been supporting EMU Ada Isigi Children’s Choir within his role at the Continuing Education Centre. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy also underlined the importance of such events because they allow children to come together and gain new experiences. An exchange of gifts followed, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy presented a gift from EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and Halil Ibrahim Yasar presented the choir members their gifts.

“A choir festival could take place in Nigde”

Another visit saw the group travelling to meet Prof. Dr. Adnan Gorur, Rector of Nigde University. During the visit Prof. Dr. Adnan Görür said “We are very proud to welcome the EMU-CEC Ada Isigi Children’s Choir to Nigde University. The university values Turkish Music”. Prof. Dr. Adnan Gorur also stated that they have set-up a conservatoire and hope to organize a choir festival sometime in the future.

EMU-CEC Board Member Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Metin Ersoy presented a gift from EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and stated that they are pleased to be at Nigde University. In addition, he invited Prof. Dr. Adnan Görür to the choir festival set to take place in July at Eastern Mediterranean University. The choir’s conductor Erkan Dagli also thanked the Rector for his support to music, going on to state that Nigde is an important musical location. Dagli, also stated that Nigde has a very nice campus, suggesting that future projects could be organized at Nigde.

“Top talents are being spotted”

For their final visit, the group arrived at the Niğde Akşemseddin Centre of Science and Arts (BILSEM). Isa Alıc, Director of BILSEM provided information about BILSEM and gave a video presentation. Isa Alic also noted that the pupils at BILSEM are specially selected and brought to the centre outside of their school to receive education their schools cannot provide. Noting that the centre works like a small university, Alic said “The areas in which the pupils are most talented are selected and education is provided accordingly”. Alic noted that they provide education for super intelligent children, 124 in Nigde and 24 thousand in Turkey as a whole.
