EMU Campus Card

Specified as the “First Campus Card of the Island of Universities”, EMU Campus Card application, a joint project of Coopbank and Eastern Mediterranean University, was presented to press at a press meeting which took place at EMU Tower Restaurant. Taking place with the participation of Eastern Mediterranean University Board of Trustees’ President İsmail Arter, Coopbank Executive Board Chair Doğan Şahali, General Director Gülhan, Deputy General Director Kemal Ataman and Eastern Mediterranean University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan and  Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca, the press meeting commenced with opening addresses which were followed by information provided on the qualities and application of EMU Campus Card. EMU Board of Trustees members Ahmet Hayri Orçan and Osman Pekineli as well as Coopbank Executive Board members, EMU Rector’s Office Informatics Coordinator Necdet İcil, EMU Public Relations and Press Office Director Derviş Ekşici and EMU Student Council Chair İbrahim Öztürk were also present at the press meeting.  

İsmail Arter “Eastern Mediterranean University Now Owns a Campus Card Used at All Developed Universities throughout the World "

Eastern Mediterranean University Board of Trustees’ President İsmail Arter started his speech by welcoming all press representatives and gave information on EMU Campus Card. Arter stated that the campus card which is an identification card with some additional distinctive features is frequently used at all developed universities throughout the world. The campus card which has been used at various venues throughout the university, has a processor operating without any physical contact. The processor contains information on the students’ right to access specific venues (library, labs, parking lots, dormitories, dormitory rooms etc.....) and, at the same time, acts as a debit card at on-campus table d’hote restaurant, cafeterias, canteens and food/beverage automats. Card transactions can also be viewed by families, if found suitable by students.

Arter  added that considering the fact that students also spend time outside the campus, the card has been converted to a bank card in collaboration with Cyprus Turkish Cooperative Central Bank. 

“Through This Unique System, We Aim to Contribute to the International Promotion of the Two Distinguished Institutions of Our Country.”

In line with the aim of becoming an island of universities, we will enable the students to use this unique card system on and off the campus and throughout the world. Adding that students will be given a campus card with “Visa Electron” qualities, Arter put forth that the aforesaid system will contribute to the international promotion of the two distinguished institutions of our country.

At the end of his speech, Arter thanked the staff of Turkish Cooperative Bank and Eastern Mediterranean University for their contributions throughout the process,

Doğan Şahali “Coopbank is a Valuable Asset of the Turkish Cypriots.” 

Coopbank Executive Board Chair Doğan Şahali started his address with thanking all press representatives for their participation in the press release meeting and put forth that since its establishment, Coopbank has been supporting the country’s economy under every condition.

Gülhan Alp  “With Our Unique Collaboration with Eastern Mediterranean University, We Introducted the Firsts.”

Following Coopbank Executive Board Chair Doğan Şahali, General Director Gülhan Alp put forth that with Coopbank’s unique collaboration with Eastern Mediterranean University, Coopbank introduced the firsts.

Stating that the investment Coopbank has put in EMU Campus Card project will minimise the costs, labor and time, Gülhan Alp put forth that they endeavor to become the bank of first choice in meeting the needs of students. General Director Alp also added that their bank will transfer a specific percentage to Eastern Mediterranean University at the end of each month in line the use of campus card by students.

Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan: “This application will be an important step in the development of new projects targeted towards students”.

Eastern Mediterranean University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Pulhan started her speech by stating that the concept of campus card is applied at modern, innovative and technologically developed universities. Prof. Dr. Pulhan added that through this unique application, the university aims to increase student and family satisfaction as well as student security. Prof. Dr. Pulhan also put forth that through the special qualities of the campus card, students will be able to use the bank supported campus card even after their graduation.

Prof. Dr. Pulhan also stated that the application will be a stepping stone in the development of new collaborations between the two institutions. At the end of her speech, Prof. Dr. Pulhan thanked all those who contributed to the project.

Kemal Ataman “ A Single Card is Sufficient for Everything on the Campus”

Deputy General Director Kemal Ataman stated that the campus card is unique in integrating different functions. Deputy General Director Ataman put forth that the card both contains identification information and functions as a bank card. 

Kemal Ataman added that the card functions without physical contact at the library turnstiles, university entrance barriers, designated parking areas, various classrooms and labs, dormitories and dormitory rooms.

Stating that the most important quality of the card is enabling the user to make payments without physical contact, Ataman added that through the funds uploaded on the card, students can use the card at table d’hote, canteens, cafeterias, laundries and beverage automats throughout the campus. 

Ataman put forth that students of EMU are now able to withdraw cash throughout the world by using EMU Campus Card at ATMs with Visa Logos.  Ataman also added that students who own a campus card can use the card internationally. Those who use the card at Optimum member businesses will earn cash points ranging between 0.50% and 20%.

Stating that the bank’s mobile and internet branches are both at students’ service, Ataman, said that they are happy to receive positive feedback from students regarding the application. Ataman concluded his speech by stating that a single card will be sufficient in meeting multiple needs of students.
