EMU Academic Staff Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy Elected as EUPRA General Secretary for the Fourth Time

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Communication Faculty, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy was elected as the General Secretary of the European Peace Research Association (EuPRA), operating under the regional constitution of International Peace Research Association (IPRA), for the fourth time. A statement from the EMU Public Relations and Press Office Directorate indicated that by being elected EuPRA General Secretary for the fourth time, EMU Communication Faculty, Department of New Media and Journalism academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy has become the EuPRA General Secretary to have held this position for the longest period of time. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy also represented EMU at the 11th International EuPRA Conference hosted by the Italian University of Catania where he presented a paper.

The EuPRA General Assembly was also held during the conference. After an election to determine EuPRA’s Board of Directors, University of Catania academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daniela Irrera was once again elected to be EuPRA President. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy was then unanimously elected to be EuPRA General Secretary for the fourth time.

2 New Faces on the Board of Directors

EuPRA’s Board of Directors were also selected at the General Assembly. The Board of Directors is comprised of the following names for 2019-2020:  Daniela Irrera (Italy), Metin Ersoy (TRNC), Vidar Vambheim (Norway), Unto Vesa (Finland), Stephanie Thiel (Germany), Ilaria Tucci (Italy), Olga Vorkunova (Russia) and Craig Brown (England). Ilaria Tucci (Italy) and Craig Brown (England) are the two new members of the EuPRA Board of Directors.

12th EuPRA Conference Will be Taking Place in Finland

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy who has been EuPRA’s General Secretary since 2013 will continue to represent EMU in an international environment in his fourth term as General Secretary. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy provided a reminder that EuPRA is a sister organization of IPRA and that this non-profit organization which was formed in 1990 organizes conferences every two years in order to contribute to peace studies academically. Indicating that the next EuPRA conference is going to take place in Finland in 2020, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersoy noted that they have started work to organize a well-attended, top quality conference that will contribute to world peace.
