Documentary Days: 'Migration and Displacement'

Eastern Mediterranean University Communication and Media Studies Faculty's Documentary Days will be taking place under the theme "Migration and Displacement" between 22 and 23 October 2015. The opening ceremony of the two-day event organised by EMU Communication and Media Studies Faculty, Radio-TV, Cinema and Journalism Department in collaboration with Famagusta Initiative, Cinema Club and Documentary Film Initiative will take place at Communication and Media Studies Faculty Purple Hall at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, 22 October 2015.

The two-day festival will be held between 3.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m.  Communication and Media Studies Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit İnatçı highlighted the growing problem of migration and displacement and expressed his pleasure in organising an event within our geography, which has experienced the said problem multiple times. Communication and Media Studies Faculty, Radio-TV, Cinema and Journalism Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanife Aliefendioğlu  stated that in a world where people have difficulties in being displaced as opposed to property, services and information,  the causes for migration and displacement as well as its pace, rhythm, routes and experience should be re-evaluated.  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aliefendioğlu  also put forth that "Documentary Days" will act as  an important event integrating Eastern Mediterranean University with the city.

During the event opening, Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit İnatçı, Famagusta Initiative activist Dr. Okan Dağlı and the representative of the Cinema Club will be delivering speeches.  Following the opening addresses, screening of the film 'Beritanlılar' and a talk with film director Osman Demirbağ  will take place.  The first day of the festival will also feature different documentary screenings including director  Güliz Sağlam’s “Evden Uzakta”,  director Enis Rıza’s  “Hüzün: Kayaköy”, and director Musa Ak’s “Mada Adası”. The festival will also host Communication and Media Studies Faculty academic staff member and Vice Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Yetin Arslan’s documentary entitled “We Live in “INGILTERE”.

The second day of the festival will start with a panel entitled “Migration, Collective Memory and Displacement” under the moderatorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanife Aliefendioğlu. The first speaker of the panel Assist. Prof.. Dr. Yaprak Civelek will be talking about  "Life Long Migration and Immigrants: Definitions and Experiences" and the second speaker Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayşenur Talat will be discussing “Migration from Turkey to Northern Cyprus: Experiences of the 1st Wave Immigrants” .

The festival will end with the screening of the director Şenol Çöm’s film 'The migration', director Esra Etiz’s film “Evler Yüzler “FOÇA”, director Bülent Arınlı’s “Kırlangıcın Yuvası_Hrant Dink'in Düşlerine" and director Gül Muyan’s documentary “Arap Kızı Camdan Bakıyor".
