Eastern Mediterranean University’s (EMU) athlete Tugba Aydın visited EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam after her remarkable success at a championship that took place in Erzurum. Aydın participated in the Turkish Athletics Federation Championships representing the TRNC in triple jump. She finished the competition in first place with a jump of 13.16 metres. Surpassing her previous best of 12.98 metres and jumping above 13 metres for the first time, Aydın gained the opportunity to take part in the U23 Balkan Championships in Romania. In Erzurum Aydın also competed in the long jump competition coming in second with a jump of 5.99 metres.
After returning to the island Tugba Aydın paid a visit of courtesy to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam alongside her coach Hasan Maydon and EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu, informing Prof. Dr. Osam about her experience gained in the Erzurum. Aydın noted that she is very proud and happy to be the triple jump champion of Turkey, highlighting the hard work that was necessary to reach the gold. She also stated that she is going to resume training in preparation for the Balkan Championships whilst thanking EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu and her coach Hasan Maydon for their support.
Prof. Dr. Osam expressed his pleasure in witnessing Tuğba Aydın’s success and stressed the importance of sporting success for EMU. Prof. Dr. Osam also noted that EMU is providing support and opportunities for their athletes and went on to extend his best wishes to Aydın for upcoming competitions. EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu underlined the importance of sports whilst providing information about different sporting events. Noting that they are training in a peaceful and highly motivated environment, Konnolu underlined the fact that EMU completed the 2015-2016 Academic Year with a high level sporting success. Konnolu also noted that they want to increase the level of success next year. The meeting was also attended by the Student Affairs Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dervis Subası and EMU Public Relations and Press Office Director Murat Aktugralı.
