Bülent Ecevit Anadolu High School Became the Winner of the 21st High School Mathematics Competition

Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University, Arts and Sciences Faculty, Mathematics Department, finals of the 21st High School Mathematics Competition which took place with the financial support of  Onay Fadıl Demirciler Education and Science Foundation was held at Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tahiroğlu Hall in EMU with the participation of Bülent Ecevit Anadolu High School, Famagusta Turkish Maarif College, Nicosia Turkish Maarif College and 19 May Turkish Maarif College’s teams. Prior to the commencement of the competition, EMU Mathematics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov thanked all those who contributed to the competition and stated that their main aim in organising an event as such is to attract students’ attention and interest towards mathematics.

After the completion of the finals, the following results were obtained:

  • Atalay Elver, Tezel Kovancı ve Batuhan Alp Akpolat from Bülent Ecevit Anadolu High School came “first”,
  • Fatma Şehitoğlu, İbrahim Atilla ve Murat Kamiloğlu from Nicosia Turkish Maarif College came “second”,
  • Sadiye Mulla, Ertan Arter ve Asya Aktuğlu from Gazimağusa Turkish Maarif College came ‘third’,
  • Duygu Sergi, Barış Sergi ve İlkben Durusoy from 19 May Turkish Maarif College received ‘Onay Fadıl Demirciler Special Award’.

Yıldız Fatma Yasak, Canan Konat and Özgür Mehmetoğlu from Erenköy High School received 21st Anniversary Special Award.

Following the competition, Famagusta Mayor and EMU Board of Trustees’ President İsmail Arter presented the award to the winning team, Bülent Ecevit Anadolu High School while EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty Founding Dean Prof. Dr. Ayhan Bilsel presented the award for the second place to Nicosia Turkish Maarif High School. Famagusta Turkish Maarif College was presented the award for the third place from Mathematics Department academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu and late Onay Fadıl Demirciler’s wife Serpin Demirciler presented 19 May Turkish Maarif College their award. Finally, Mathematics Department chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov presented 21st Anniversary Special Award to Erenköy High School.

Additionally, Famagusta Mayor and the President of the Board of Trustees presented awards to those students who qualified for the first three places in the individuals category of the competition which took place on 16 April 2015. In the aforesaid competition category, Sadiye Mulla (first place, Famagusta TMC), Atalay Elver (second place, BEAL) and Ertan Arter (third place, Famagusta TMC) and İbrahim Atilla (third place, Nicosia TMK) received awards. Asya Aktuğlu (Famagusta TMC), Çağıl Özer (Nicosia TMC) and Fatma Şehitoğlu (Nicosia TMC) received Onay Fadıl Demirciler Special Award from late Onay Fadıl Demirciler’s wife Serpin Demirciler, his daughter Naciye Demirciler and his brother Sayman Demirciler. Tezel Kovancı (BEAL) was presented the 21st Anniversary Special Award by Mathematics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov.
