The “Kısa Film Tadında / Just Like a Short Film” Reels Competition organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Cinema and TV has concluded with an awards ceremony held at Prof. Dr. Aysel Aziz Conference Hall. Offering a platform for young talents to showcase their creative storytelling techniques, the competition aims to increase the youth’s interest in media and cinema sector.
Delivering a speech at the event, Prof. Dr. Bahire Efe Özad, the Chair of EMU Department of Radio, Cinema and TV, expressed her appreciation to all academic and administrative personnel, jury members, supporting institutions and, attending students who have contributed to the competition. Prof. Dr. Özad Özad remarked that the competition infused the faculty with vibrant energy by engaging the enthusiasm of the youth, and she extended her congratulations to the young participants for their bravery in joining and their accomplishments.
In his address, EMU Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy underscored the importance of the competition, pointing out that the event offers students a platform to express their ideas and share their creativity with the community. Prof. Dr. Ersoy also mentioned that events like these play a valuable role in supporting young people’s career development and expressed the university’s commitment to nurturing emerging talents.
Also attending the event, EMU Vice Rector for Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Salih Katırcıoğlu emphasized that the competition provides a significant opportunity for high school students to acquire knowledge and practical experience in cinema and new media. He further noted that such events enable students to start their university education with greater readiness.
Delivering a speech on behalf of Afsen Construction Ltd., one of the key sponsors of the event, Director Arif Köroğlu conveyed their pride and joy in supporting young talents and expressed their wish to see more initiatives that foster creativity among youth.
The works of young participants were carefully reviewed by a jury composed of industry professionals, including Mehmet Ekin Vaiz and Gülşen Erçin, directors of Neydi Olacağı advertising platform; Ahmet Yalçın, administrator of the Durumcuklar page; and EMU Cinema and Television Department faculty members Assist. Prof. Dr. Barçın Boğaç, Assist. Prof. Dr. Pembe Behçetoğulları, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Yetin Arslan. The submissions were evaluated and scored based on storytelling, technical skill, originality, and emotional resonance.
Ranking Students and Their Work
Havin Ceylan, a student from İskele Trade High School, won the Instagram video with the highest views for her piece titled “Küçük Mutluluklar”. After the jury’s assessment, first place was awarded to Meliz Bahri from Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School for her video “Anıda Saklı Mutluluk” while the second-place prize went to Zahra Aghayeva from Atatürk Vocational High School for her work “Benimle Bir Gün”.
